Bet On Taiwan: The B.O.T. of a nation

Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) has been the mode of operation for the government in nation building- from infrastructure to museums- since the nineties. Despite the economic benefits, the unsettling thing about BOT is the unbridled commercial motivations behind it within an urban culture that thrives on speculations. BOT have become the basic means to deliver immediate "progress" in the shadow of Taiwan's persistent political/public image crisis. Taking cues from speculative urban developments (both public and private) which aspire to instant returns, development conformity and brand envy; we apply a corollary fast /cheap but open-ended methodology to the making of a BOT Taiwan for the year 2010. A rumor to be propagated; "borrowed' architecture, the internet and media are used collectively as a dissemination tool to plant seeds of belief or disbelief.
