Urban Scope

Urban Scope is a semi permanent public pavilion for a new future urban arts program on a site that was once the largest transportation hub and train station here. Straddling the 140m long historical rail platform, Urban Scope reinstate the site's history as a city on the move, an "urban mass" that slides on recycled railway tracks and train wheels to create multiple spatial configurations for various types and scales of events. Framing a telescopic east-west view channel of the city, Urban Scope can contract to 30m or expand to 80m long.

The system-form is derived from 7 variations of the "skyline arch"- a zigzag structure with a 22m span- impressioned from the surrounding cityscapes. Simple repetitions of the skyline arch resulted in a mass that is highly ordered yet organic in expression. The structure is surfaced in translucent raw fiberglass panels and industrial PE netting woven in a zigzag pattern.
